I had the opportunity to try out Hair Story Studio’s ‘New Wash’ shampoo in exchange for my honest opinion and review. I swapped out my entire hair care routine in the shower for this one product for thirty days. Here was my journey.

My shampoo arrived packaged nicely in a box. I personally find the packaging of the product to be aesthetically pleasing; I’m all about glossy white things and minimal lettering.
So, what exactly is Hair Story Studio’s ‘New Wash’? Here is what they claim (ingredient list included below):
Hair care really isn’t my thing. I’m pretty low maintenance when it comes to hair; I rarely blowdry it, sometimes curl it, and that’s about it. To be completely honest, I don’t always remember to use the coconut oil hair mask… I literally have to push myself to use it because it feels like it’s so much work! Which leads me to the next point; I’m not one to be picky about the shampoo and conditioners I use. I’ve never been consistent with repurchasing any shampoo/conditioner except Head & Shoulders.
Before I was diagnosed with Lupus last summer, my hair was thick, coarse, and got oily real quick. After getting sick, I lost at least 50% of my hair and it has been brittle, delicate, flat, and lacks a LOT of volume. So, I’ve been on the hunt for ways to grow out my hair quicker. [[ In fact, I’ve been making smoothies (almost) daily with flaxseed and sesame seeds, in which I feel has been making a difference. ]]
My hair has always been dry but I never gave much thought into the fact that the shampoos I use may contribute to it. So when I heard of ‘New Wash’, I was excited to try something that was more natural than what I used on a regular basis.
Not gonna lie – I was extremely skeptical about using a shampoo and conditioner in one that was made with essential oils for thirty days instead of my shampoo and conditioner. HUH? That sounded way too good to be true. Not to mention how awesome it was that I could skip the step of conditioning after shampooing since this was a one step thing. YAAAASSS!
So, for thirty days, I only used New Wash as my shower product for my hair. Nothing else. The instructions were to wet my hair thoroughly, coat hair with a generous amount of product, massage into entire scalp to make sure it really gets in there and cleans, and then rinse with water. Within the first couple days, I noticed a difference with my hair – it was less frizzy after it air dried, and was a lot softer than before. I was shocked. I wish I took before photos, but I completely forgot to. However, I took some “after” photos of my hair near the end of the thirty days; here is what it looked like.
Ever since finishing my bottle of New Wash, I have gone back to using normal shampoo and conditioner again. Let me tell you – I can definitely tell the difference between using generic every-day normal shampoo/conditioner versus Hair Story New Wash. My hair is unfortunately back to being dry-er and frizzy-er (especially post shower air dry).
I would definitely recommend picking up a bottle of New Wash and giving it a whirl if you’re curious at all or looking for a natural alternative to shampoo. From my experience, it lives up to what it claims – that it cleans your hair without having the harmful ingredients in it, resulting in healthier-looking hair.
If you’re curious about how I curl my hair, I’ll be posting a video on Youtube soon about it – stay tuned! I’m currently on vacation in Seattle and having a blast… but I’m excited to come home to lots of changes, in which I will touch base about it soon!
Until next time!
