Casual in Culottes

Happy Monday!

The last couple months, I have been giving a lot of thought to my wardrobe. I want to revamp it and start getting rid of clothes that I do not wear often, or at all. Up until recently, I never really knew what I liked, or what my “style” was. I used to be a little fashionista back when I was five, thanks to my mother dressing me up in the cutest outfits and documenting each one on her film camera.. From denim on denim, to a matching, bright orange, two-piece set that looked like I came straight out of jail! But guess what? I didn’t give a shit and I was confident as hell rocking it. I was excited every morning about each and every outfit she put me in, and I thought I was a fucking rockstar. I walked into preschool feeling like a million bucks. Looking at the pictures now, it was that confidence and excited grin on my face that made me look awesome in every outfit. That’s where I wanna be at. Despite trends constantly changing, I want to discover what I like, put a twist to it, and make it my own. I want to wear what I want to wear regardless of whether it’s “in” or not, and feel a hundred percent confident in myself.

Back around the beginning of last winter I came across a pair of black culottes on sale (of course) and tried it on. I’ll be honest with you. I had no idea how I was going to rock them. I have never worn trousers before, let alone these cropped and flared ones that seemed intimidating to dress down enough to wear on a daily. Feeling brave, I took the plunge and bought them anyways (they were so comfy!) and found a way to style them for a casual look!

I decided to pair the culottes with a black turtleneck, a long grey cardigan, and some sneakers. I love the way sneakers tone down the seriousness of trousers, and I feel that the grey cardigan adds a touch of casual coziness to the look!

I also love how ‘minimal’ this outfit looks. The colour palette is simple and classic.

Black turtleneck: Ardene’s
